This Medicine Wants To Grow!

Newly sprouted seedlings.

That’s what I know lately, and feel, and observe. This medicine wants to grow. I watch it growing every day. I feel it growing every day and every day I understand that this is all I need to understand. This is my service, and my prayer, and my job.

A portion of the Seedling Sanctuary nursery.

It has been 7 months since we started the Morning Star Conservancy Seedling Sanctuary Project. As Cultivation Director, I’ve needed and received lots of help. Thanks to the directors of Morning Star, the contributors, and the friends who’ve gotten us this far. For my part it’s been humbling, challenging, exhilarating, and instructive. I’m definitely learning a lot. All of us are.

The first planting of seedlings we planted are growing strong. Our initial seed supply was not as viable as we had hoped and so we’ve actively sought new, fresher seed sources and have also been gathering our own. Our second planting looks much more successful than our first.

Mostly I have been busy, a little too busy to make any written updates here, and I’m in the middle of several tasks now, so I’ll keep the written part of this short. But enjoy the pics. I will give updated soil and germination tips soon but again, I’m exactly in the middle of learning time here so I’ll leave that information in the oven for a bit longer.

10,000 seeds ready for planting.

Also know that we need your support to carry on with the seedling sanctuary. Every day I look at it and know it wants to grow so… in celebration of that beautiful biological bounty, I have been spending my evening hours making celebratory art. As part of my prayer and service I am really putting my heart into making art- peyote art. As inspired by the plants themselves. I am offering them for donation. These are original hand created peyote prayers, each requiring many hours to complete. In addition to signing, I will also inscribe with custom message, if you wish, for gift-giving purposes.

Please go to the following page to see how you can own a piece of historical art, made by hand at the Seedling Sanctuary, that commemorates and contributes to peyote’s future.
